UEW graduate turns to construction work after job hunt fails

A young Ghanaian graduate from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has opened up about the harsh reality of life after school.
Two years after completing his degree, he is now working as a construction labourer because he has been unable to secure a white-collar job.
“I’m also a graduate, two years now. But you see, when you come out, there is nothing like ‘my certificate or your degree or first class student.’ It is about: ‘What can you do?’” he said in a candid Instagram video.
He warned final-year students and those about to graduate not to place all their hopes in promises of jobs after National Service.
“So I’m pleading with those of you who are about to graduate, have it at the back of your mind. I believe by now you have a whole lot of promises.
“After National Service, I will get you a job. It’s all red flags and 419. Have it in mind that it’s not as you think. Schooling is just like the marketplace, who purchase your goods.”
Despite his struggles, the young man says he has embraced the reality of working as a construction worker, describing himself as a “foundation expert.”
“As for me, I am proud I am doing this work. I can’t tell whether it’s temporal or permanent. We pray to see what will happen.
“For now, I am a foundation expert. I dig foundation, manhole, filling, and carrying blocks from one place to the other. This is what we call man must eat. I believe that at the right time, things will work.”
