Prez Mahama on GBA bill: Franklin Cudjoe drops update

Franklin Cudjoe has given an update on the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) controversy.

According to him, President John Dramani Mahama has now been invited to this year’s Bar Conference. “Update.

The President has been invited to this year’s Bar Conference. Please take note Hon. Rockson Dafeamekpor,” he wrote.

His update follows earlier concerns raised by South Dayi MP and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, who accused the GBA of bias in its choice of speakers.

The MP argued that from 2017 to 2024, then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was “nearly always the Special Guest of Honour and Speaker” at the annual conference.

But in a departure from that tradition, President Mahama’s name was initially missing from the advertised list of speakers.

Dafeamekpor also questioned why the GBA had instead invited the President of the Bar Council of England & Wales—an institution he claimed “recently attacked this Government without any provocation.”

In a sharp and sarcastic tone, he further suggested that the GBA should invite the Commonwealth Lawyers Association “to add effect” to what he described as a pattern of bias.

“The GBA’s unalloyed bias against President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government is too glaring to be ignored now,” he stressed.
