He DMed me but never called — Kwaw Kese opens up on Shatta Wale

Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has opened up about his relationship with dancehall star Shatta Wale, whom he fondly refers to as his “son”, describing him as talented but lacking respect.

In an interview on Hitz FM monitored by MyNewsGh, Kwaw recounted incidents that, in his view, reflected a worrying pattern of disrespect in the industry.

He recalled how Shatta once accused Bulldog of murder on social media, only to later act cordial behind the scenes.

“My son doesn’t respect,” Kwaw said bluntly. “He has disrespected everybody in the industry — even Osei Kwame Despite.

“One time he accused Bulldog of killing my manager and said he would expose him. Then later, he came into my DM saying, ‘Kwaw, we need to talk.’ I gave him my number, and he never called.”

The “Yakubu” rapper made it clear that his recent criticism of Shatta Wale’s Grammy submission post wasn’t a feud but a fatherly correction.

“I didn’t mention any names. I only said there’s no need to celebrate Grammy submissions because everyone submits, the real celebration comes when you’re nominated,” he explained.

“But they took it personal and started insulting me all over social media.”

According to Kwaw, his remarks were born out of principle, not malice.

“If you are a father and you can’t teach your son principles, then you’re not a good father,” he said. “My son did wrong, and I just said it. That’s not beef. I’m too old for beef.”

He concluded by urging artists to embrace humility and accountability in the public eye.

“If you’ve insulted people in the light, then when you change, let the people see that change in the light too,” he advised.
